PASSIVE VOICE AND ACTIVE VOICE

THE USE OF PASSIVE VOICE SENTENCE

(Penggunaan Kalimat Pasif)

ACTIVE VOICE (Kalimat Aktif) is used (digunakan) when we want to say that (kita ingin mengatakan bahwa) the subject (for example: I, You, We, They, She, He, and It DOES AN ACTION (subyek melakukan suatu aktivitas/perbuatan). So, the subject is THE DOER of the action. (Jadi, subyek adalah pelaku aktivitas/perbuatan).

ACTIVE and PASSIVE FORMS

1.       Present Simple	Am/is/are + Verb 3 (Past Participle)
ACTIVE  : PASSIVE :	Dangerous driving causes many accidents. Many accidents are caused by dangerous driving.
2.       Present Continuous	Am/is/are being + Verb 3 (Past Participle)
ACTIVE  : PASSIVE :	Somebody is cleaning the room at the moment. The room is being cleaned at the moment. (There is no ‘by phrase’in this sentence due to the abstract words, such as somebody, someone, etc.)
3.       Present Perfect	Has/have been + Verb 3 (Past Participle)
ACTIVE  : PASSIVE :	The police have arrested three men. Three men have been arrested by the police.

I.                    Change the following active sentences into passive forms.

1.      They are building a new ring-road round the city.
